Memorial service being held for one of the men killed in New Bern accident

A memorial service will be held Wednesday for a man killed in a car accident.

Co-workers of 64 year old Paul Hurley will hold a memorial service at the Courtyards at Berne Village in New Bern, Wednesday at 2 P.M.

New Bern Police say Hurley died after a head on crash on the 3,900 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard on Saturday.

They say it happened when 23 year old Tyler Jones crossed the median into the other lane. Officers say Jones died as well.

Police have released the names of the two men who died after a head on collision in New Bern early Saturday evening.

Officers with the New Bern Police Department were called to the 3900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near Academic Drive around 5 p.m.

Police say 23-year-old Tyler Jones was driving south on MLK when his Nissan Altima crossed the grassy median into the north bound lane. Jones' car crashed head on with Paul Hurley's Ford Focus. The 64-year-old was heading north on MLK.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene. Hurley was airlifted to Carolina East Medical Center where he later died.

The New Bern Police Department’s investigation of this crash is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this accident can contact Traffic Investigator, MPO III William Zerby at 633-2022.

New Bern police say a second person has died following a collision Saturday evening.

Police say the accident happened on Highway 17 near Academic Drive just after 5 p.m.

Sgt. Bowen says one car was heading south out of New Bern when the car crossed over the median. The vehicle went head on into another car that was traveling in the opposite direction.

Police say the driver of the car that crossed over the median died on scene.

The driver of the other car was taken to Carolina East Medical Center, where they succumbed to their injuries, officers say.

The names of both drivers are not being released pending the notification of family members.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the crash.

The New Bern Fire Department, Trent Woods police, River Bend police, and the NC Highway Patrol all assisted in the call.

A section of a New Bern highway was closed for about 4 hours Saturday as police investigated a fatal two car accident.
