A high-speed fatal crash that killed a Camp Lejeune Marine in Onslow County overnight is under investigation by the Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the crash was reported at 10:45 p.m. Thursday on Highway 172 near Hubert. Troopers say the Marine was driving south on the highway at speeds around 100 miles per hour when he lost control and crashed into a ditch. The car flipped several times, and the Marine was thrown from the vehicle.

The Highway Patrol has not released the name of the victim, pending notification of family members.
