Fans, Businesses Excited For First ECU Football Game

Pirate football fans are excited for the return of football this weekend, and it's not only good news for fans, but for the local economy as well.

ECU Senior Tucker Johnson says, "Absolutely thrilled, cannot wait, ready to tailgate all day."

And that excitement translates into big business for local restaurants that are gearing up for one of their busiest times of the year.

Sup Dogs owner Bret Oliverio says, "We're expecting record sales. We're all staffed up, we're ready to go. I mean the energy in this restaurant and frankly downtown in general is just amazing this time of year."

Phillip Matthews is the manager of Cubbies and says, "Football season is definitely the season we prepare for here because that's our busy time of the year."

Travis Hilton is the co-owner of Stilllife and says, "It kinda smacks you in the face when everyone comes back because it's a huge change. This is a college based town, so when the students come back you're doing about 4 times the business you do in the summer."

Uptown Greenville will continue to host Freeboot Friday, along with their newest addition, a free gameday shuttle service sponsored by several downtown shops and restaurants.

ECU's first game is this Saturday at home against Old Dominion at 7p.m.
