Officers statewide gathered in New Bern Wednesday as the city's police department honored fallen officers and unveiled the law enforcement monument.
The New Bern Police Department and Craven County Sheriff's Office joined forces for a law enforcement memorial Wednesday.
The ceremony took place in front of the New Bern Police Department on 601 George Street.
The memorial honors fallen officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, such as 22-year-old New Bern Police Officer Alexander Thalmann who died in late March.
In conjunction to the memorial, the law enforcement monument, which was recently moved from Broad Street to the city's police station, was revealed.
Several guests were in attendance, including family members of fallen officers.
The president of North Carolina Concerns of Police Survivors Ron Matthews is the featured speaker for the memorial.
Chief Summers said a community like New Bern truly understands the importance of honoring fallen officers and their families.
