Ex-NC Congressman Etheridge Looking At 2012 Race

Former U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge is evaluating whether he'll try to run for his old seat in Congress.

The Harnett County Democrat told The News & Observer of Raleigh on Tuesday he'll sit down with supporters early next year and discuss his options. One would include seeking the 2nd Congressional District seat he narrowly lost to Republican Renee Ellmers in 2010.

Etheridge told the newspaper he's frustrated with what's going on in Washington and blames recent problems on members of the tea party movement elected to Congress.

The 70-year-old Etheridge now lives in the 4th District after redistricting, but state law allows citizens to run for any congressional seat.

Etheridge served in Congress for 14 years. He's now Gov. Beverly Perdue's point man on the state's Hurricane Irene recovery.
