Rescue crews said one boater has been rescued from a stranded vessel off the Crystal Coast.
Harkers Island Fire and Rescue Chief, Chad Mann, said the Coast Guard helicopter located a boat that had called for help around midnight.
By 3:30 a.m., Captain Jesse Chaplain said a vessel had been located in shallow water.
Within half an hour, crews found the stranded boater off Harkers Island and said that boater had no injuries.
Fire and rescue crews are working to bring the boater ashore.
Emergency crews in Harkers Island are searching for a boater after receiving a call about a water craft in distress.
Harkers Island Fire Chief Chad Mann told WITN his department was dispatched around midnight Tuesday about a water vessel in trouble near Shell Point National Park.
Mann said they are searching for a 17 foot vessel. They believe there is only one person on the boat.
Investigators said the boater made contact with the Coast Guard by cellphone, but the connection was lost and never recovered.
A rescue helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City was being dispatched around 2 a.m. to join in on the search.
