Emerald Isle Street Named For Coastguardsman Who Died In Line Of Duty

An Emerald Isle street now bears the name of a courageous man who meant a lot to his community in honor of him giving his life in the line of duty working for the U.S. Coast Guard. As of Thursday, Station Street was renamed Terrell Horne III Way.

Coastguardsman Terrell Horne III died in December fighting for his country. Horne's family from all over the country, including his wife and three young sons, came to Emerald Isle Thursday for the dedication. Senior Chief Horne was killed in the line of duty December 12th while chasing drug smugglers off the coast of California.

In his last moment of life, Horne pushed a fellow crew member out of harms way.

"To be able to do something like this for a good friend, and coastguardsman who was killed in the line of duty the way he was, standing up there today was very emotional. I'm glad I was able to keep it together," said Chief Rob Lepere.

Horne worked at Coast guard Station Emerald Isle 2009- 2011 keeping locals and visitors safe at sea.
