Elderly Pitt County Man Pinned By Falling Tree

An elderly man was rescued this afternoon after he got pinned by the tree he was cutting down.

It happened on Reba Drive, off B's Barbeque Road outside of Greenville around 2:30 p.m.

Red Oak Fire Captain John Maynard says the man was on a ladder cutting down a tree when the tree fell and hit him. The man was knocked off the ladder, and his leg was pinned by the tree trunk.

Maynard says they don't know how long the man was trapped, but rescue crews were able to free him and he was taken to Vidant Medical Center.

Neighbors say the man's grandson lives in the neighborhood.
