ECU Students Volunteer For Monthly Clean Up Of University Neighborhood

They've been blamed for a lot of the issues in the University neighborhood, but starting next month, East Carolina University students be hitting the streets to clean the place up.

At Wednesday night's town hall meeting, the University Neighborhood Association announced that starting on February 9th, two fraternities and/or sororities will walk the streets cleaning up trash. The greek organizations will rotate each month, with one Saturday designated to clean-up.

"The fact that students can help fix it is a big deal. Having a number of students in a large mass doing positive things will educate the residents that reside in our neighborhood to realize that it's not as it's being described traditionally," said Frank Cassiano with the
University Neighborhood Association.

Cassiano says the February 9th group will start at the City Market parking lot on Jarvis Street.
