An ECU student is accused in the death of a Marine who was hit by the student's car.
Wilmington police say 19-year-old Jackson Davies of Apex is charged with felony death by motor vehicle in the death of 22-year-old Cory Reese. Police say Reese was a Marine stationed in Jacksonville. An ECU spokeswoman says Davies enrolled at the university in Greenville in fall 2013.
Police say Reese was walking on Rose Avenue in Wilmington, near the campus of UNCW, early Sunday morning when Davies hit Reese with his vehicle. The car hit a tree and a utility pole, and Davies was hospitalized at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was charged after getting released from the hospital and was booked under a $50,000 bond. Police say he posted that bond and was released.
In addition to the death by motor vehicle charge, Davies also faces DWI.
