A traffic stop in the east leads to the arrest of a drug suspect, and eventually his girlfriend through investigation.
The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 23-year-old Anthony Solomon-Cartagena of Roanoke Rapids following a traffic stop on Highway 125. Officials say that a strong smell of marijuana was coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle found 15 grams of marijuana, ten individually wrapped bags of crack cocaine, approximately three grams of powder cocaine, and a digital scale according to investigators. Cartagena was arrested for possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officials say a search warrant was requested and granted for Cartagena’s home on Deer Run Drive. There they say they found approximately 12 grams of cocaine, approximately 24 grams of marijuana, a glass marijuana pipe and a digital scale.
Warrants were requested for Cartagena and his girlfriend, 21-year-old Keyuna Alston who lawmen say was at the Halifax County Detention Center trying to bail out Cartagena. Cartagena and Alston were served with warrants for felony possession of cocaine, possession marijuana >1/2 to 1 ½ oz., maintain dwelling, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Cartagena was given an additional $8,000.00 bond and Alston was given a $10,000.00 bond, both have a May 1, 2013 court date.
