The State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to look into possible irregularities with the Onslow County Sheriff's Office.
District Attorney Ernie Lee said he met with Sheriff Ed Brown and second in command Colonel Boyd Brown for almost two hours this morning reviewing allegations concerning gasoline receipts and use of county credit cards.
Lee says his chief assistant D.A. was at that meeting, as well as county attorney Lesley Moxley.
The district attorney says he scheduled the meeting after receiving a letter from the sheriff requesting it. Lee says Brown provided documents, financial records and reports for him to review.
Lee says after the meeting he asked the SBI to investigate the allegations.
Brown, sheriff for 24 years, lost in a heated primary election this spring.
When contacted, Brown's office says the sheriff would not be back in until Wednesday morning.
