The disbarred former Durham district attorney who prosecuted three Duke University lacrosse players falsely accused of rape breaks his silence about the case that exploded eight years ago.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reports (http://bit.ly/QrD6l6 ) that former prosecutor Mike Nifong's thoughts about the case appear virtually unchallenged in a book set for publication April 8.
Nifong says he still believes that exotic dancer Crystal Mangum was attacked at a lacrosse team party in March 2006. Nifong says Attorney General Roy Cooper declared the players innocent in 2007 because of pressure from defense lawyers.
The former State Bureau of Investigation director who probed the case says all the physical evidence pointed to innocence. A Superior Court judge ruled that Nifong lied and withheld evidence that helped prove the players' innocence.
