Many school systems will be closed for the fourth straight day on Friday as many roads in Eastern Carolina remain snow packed and icy. Everyone should stay off the roads if possible. We saw some improvement Thursday afternoon with sunshine and highs reaching the mid 30s. The roads will go right back to icy shortly after sunset and stay that way through mid morning Friday.
By 5:00 p.m., several Eastern Carolina cities had climbed above freezing for the first time in nearly 60 hours.
The above freezing temperatures won't last long. Most of Eastern Carolina will drop back down below 32° overnight before warming to the mid 40s Friday afternoon.
