DEPUTIES: SWAT Team, K-9's Called To Waffle House For Naked, Combative Man

Deputies in Craven County said a man walked into a Waffle House early Wednesday morning and shattered lighting fixtures with his cane, prompting employees to run from the restaurant and call police.

Captain Joe Heckman with the Craven County Sheriff's Office said three employees were inside the restaurant at the time.

Employees said they thought they saw a weapon, so they ran outside and called for help.

Deputies said the man, who they believe has a mental impairment, took his clothes off and then barricaded himself in the restroom of the Waffle House.

A SWAT Team and K-9 units were called in after deputies said they thought they saw the man with a weapon.

Once officers were inside, the man became combative and was subdued.

Heckman said the man was involuntarily committed to the hospital.

The Waffle House is now back open.

The man's name has not yet been released.
