A winter weather advisory is in effect until 7am on Saturday for Beaufort, Mainland Hyde, Martin, Outer Banks Dare, Tyrrell, Washington and western Dare County. The threats are black ice and slick roadways.
Attempts to stop a vehicle involved in a hit and run turned into a chase when Beaufort County deputies say the driver wouldn't stop.
The Sheriff's Office says 46-year-old Henry Wallace of Pantego is charged with 7 offenses.
Deputies say the hit and run was reported Thursday night on Slatestone Road in Beaufort County. Deputies tried to stop the vehicle at Slatestone and Highway 32, but they say Wallace kept going reaching speeds of 60 miles per hour. He was eventually stopped when deputies were able to deploy stop sticks.
In addition to the traffic violations, he was charged with possession of cocaine, and his vehicle was seized under North Carolina's "run and your done" law.
Deputies didn't release details about the hit and run which they were originally pursuing Wallace for.
