SCAM ALERT: Deputies Arrest Trio In Toys For Tots, Fire Department Scam

Deputies have charged two men and a woman for scamming people into donating to Toys for Tots and local fire departments.

Thursday a woman says she was approached by the three on Gurley Dairy Road in Wayne County. The woman gave some money and then checked with a neighbor who is connected to the local fire department.

After learning the fire department was not soliciting money right now, she found the trio and asked for her money back. The woman says the three sped away, nearly hitting her, but not before she got the vehicle's license plate.

Brittany Norvell of Goldsboro, Phillip Brill of Goldsboro and Billy Steen of Kenly were charged with obtaining property by false pretense.

Deputies believe there are possibly more victims who were also scammed by the trio. If you have been a victim, call the Wayne County Sheriff's Office at 919-731-1481.
