Deputies: Felon Charged With Having Gun Following Fight

An investigation that started over shots fired and an assault last month has led to charges for a man already behind bars.

55-year old James Cox of Cherry Road in Washington was served warrants for possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

He was already behind bars for a probation parole violation.

Beaufort County Sheriff's investigators responded back in February to a report of shots fired. They say two men had been fighting over a gun, the sawed off shotgun, considered a weapon of mass destruction.

The gun was later found in nearby woods.
