Construction is underway on a $44-million dollar renovation project in Greenville.
Demolition got underway Tuesday on the Taft building at the intersection of Evans Street and Reade Circle.
Mayor Allen Thomas tells us retail space and several stories of apartments will fill up the corner, and behind that will be the large parking deck so many have been waiting for.
Thomas says this is the first sign of a lot of changes to come. "Well now it starts to become real here in downtown Greenville as we see the de-construction of the Taft building as this large project moves forward. 580 beds, a $44-million dollar project.
Thomas says anyone who leaves Greenville now and comes back in a couple of years is going to be blown away by the improvements.
