Democratic Incumbent Hagan Files For Senate Re-Election

RALEIGH (AP) - U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan says she's running for re-election because North Carolina voters want bipartisan solutions in Washington and accuses conservative special interests already spending millions against her of promoting extreme policies.

The Greensboro Democrat turned in candidacy papers Monday at the State Board of Elections in Raleigh and held a news conference. Four Republicans already have officially entered the GOP primary race and at least two more are expected before Friday's filing deadline.

Hagan told reporters she's been working to help military families, older adults and college students during her first five years in office.

She also criticized the Republican agenda in Raleigh. That's an indirect jab at state House Speaker Thom Tillis, one of her Republican challengers.
