Decompression Sickness Leads To Coast Guard Rescue Off Hatteras Inlet

The Coast Guard says that a diver is recovering at the hospital after having to be rescued off of Hatteras Inlet on Sunday.

Officials say they received a call around 3 p.m. from the captain of the dive boat Under Pressure that a 52-year-old diver was suffering from signs of decompression sickness.

A coast guard boat crew from Hatteras Inlet responded to the vessel and transferred the man to an awaiting MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter.

The man was flown to Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk.
