DOT To Begin Month-Long Resurfacing Project On Busy Jacksonville Street

A busy street many use to get in and out of downtown Jacksonville is getting a facelift. It will cause detours for several weeks.

Contractors put up signs on Monday as they prepare to repave Hargett Street, between Johnson Boulevard and Bell Fork Road.

Delays were expected to start Monday, but an Onslow County D.O.T. engineer says closures and detours will begin on Wednesday.

The month-long resurfacing project will smooth out Hargett Street after the city replaced water and sewer lines under the street last fall.

The D.O.T. will also add a center turn lane and a bicycle lane.
