DMV Closes Columbia License Plate Agency

People needing to get their vehicle license tags renewed will now have to travel to another county.

The Division of Motor Vehicles has closed the Columbia License Plate Agency for "repeated disregard of standard operating procedures" under its contract with the DMV.

The agency on West Main Street had been operated by the Town of Columbia since 1984.

DMV says it doesn't expect replacing the agency in Columbia because of nearby offices in Plymouth and Manteo, both which are about 30 miles away.
