DMV Blackout Now In Second Day

A power outage at the Raleigh headquarters of the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles is disrupting the agency's services statewide for a second day.

DMV spokeswoman Marge Howell said Friday the outage was expected to continue for the entire day. The building on New Bern Avenue first lost power Thursday morning.

Computer systems used to conduct DMV business at locations statewide have been affected, having what Howell described as a limited impact on the agency's driver license and vehicle registration services. Customers are being urged to call their local DMV office before they visit to ensure their needs can be met.

DMV officials have still not said what caused the outage.

Previous Story

You might want to think twice about conducting business with the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles today.

A power outage at the DMV headquarters building not only has disrupted services in Raleigh, but also statewide. That's because the DMV's computer system, used to conduct business, has no power as well.

The outage was reported shortly after 11:00 a.m. and repair work is expected to last through tonight.

Customers are urged to call local DMV offices before they make a visit until further notice.
