DEPUTIES: High Schooler Threatened Violence At Middle School

The Onslow County Sheriff's Office said on Friday that after a week long investigation, they have pinpointed the culprit behind the Facebook threat of violence at Swansboro Middle School on Monday: a 15-year-old girl.

Parents of middle school students told WITN on Monday morning they received an automatic call generated from the school saying they had received word of a social media threat to the middle school, and would respond by having extra deputies on campus. That day, witnesses tell us several parents opted to pull their children from Swansboro Middle School for the day. Classes were not cancelled.

Deputies said on Friday afternoon, an investigator shared evidence with a 15-year-old female student at Northside High School. Deputies said that student openly admitted to the investigator she had made the threat.

The student, whose name has not been released due to her age, will be charged in a Juvenile Petition with making a false threat concerning mass violence on educational property.

A news release from the Onslow County Sheriff's office said evidence indicated early on the threat came from a small group of students and there was not immediate, real threat to the middle school.
