Neighbors of a man arrested Friday tell WITN they aren't surprised to hear that he allegedly texted inappropriate pictures to a 12-year-old girl.
The arrest warrant for 27-year old Shawn Messina of Reelsboro says it all. The Pamlico County Sheriff's Office arrested and charged him Friday with indecent liberties with a child, and disseminating obscenity to a minor under the age of 13.
"It's disgusting number one," says Jeanna Ervin, a neighbor. "I have a daughter and I can't even imagine something like that happening."
Ervin lives on Longleaf Drive in Reelsboro, across the street from Messina. Deputies say he "sexted" pictures of his private area to a 12-year old girl.
Messina is being held in jail under a $50,000 secured bond. He's scheduled to appear in court on Friday in Bayboro.
Messina has some prior offenses in Pamlico County, including robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, and simple assault.
The sheriff's office says us the 12-year-old victim is a student in the Craven County school system. It's not known how Messina got her phone number.
