Deputies say they are pursuing more charges against a Chocowinity man who they say was making meth near a middle school.

Now, investigators say a 20-ounce bottle with meth ingredients inside was found in a ditch at Chocowinity Middle School.

Earlier this week, Beaufort County Deputies arrested and charged Thomas Hardee with possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school, manufacturing methamphetamine, maintaining a dwelling to facilitate a drug activity, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sheriff Alan Jordan says Hardee cooked the meth in his home on Walhurst Avenue in Chocowinity, and then drove around and tossed the pots out in various locations.

Two of those locations have been identified so far and include the school grounds of Chocowinity Middle School. A second location is at the intersection of Highway 17 and 102. It's believed there is also a third location.

Captain Russell Davenport says if a child at the school had picked up the plastic bottle they could have been severely injured. He says they are now looking at child endangerment charges against Hardee.
