DEPUTIES: 70-80 Cats Found In Rented Building

Deputies say they found between 70 and 80 cats in a rented building Wednesday, possibly part of an illegal cat rescue operation going on in Pasquotank County.

The building is on Nixonton Road, south of Elizabeth City.

Deputies say apparently the cats were abandoned by a couple who now live in Chowan County.

The Sheriff's Office says it's working with the SPCA and the District Attorney's Office on relocating the cats as well as any charges brought in the the case.

Anyone who wants to help the SPCA with donations for the cats can call 252-338-5222.
