Croatan Scheduled For Prescribed Burn

On Monday, the U.S. Forest Service announced it would do a prescribed burn for parts of the Croatan National Forest.

Crews said the burn would cover nearly 422 acres three miles east of Cape Carteret, just off of Highway 24 and Bogue Road.

Officials said no roads or trails would be closed for the Monday burn, but advised those visiting the forest to be aware of smoke.

The U.S. Forest Service said prescribed burns ultimately reduces the amount of fuel on the forest floor in addition to helping restore the longleaf pine ecosystem.
