Cristobal Brings Red Flags To Emerald Isle Beaches

Red flags are up on the Crystal Coast, warning swimmers to stay out of the ocean.

Hurricane Cristobal is some 330 miles from Atlantic Beach, and could get within 250 miles later today before it moves north.

The hurricane is causing dangerous surf conditions, with 4-5 foot surf, high rip currents, and rough shorebreaks.

In Emerald Isle, lifeguards are flying red flags, warning people to stay out of the water. At Atlantic Beach, lifeguards have already ended for the summer season so there are no flags out.

Surf conditions are expected to improve by the weekend.
