NEW INFO: Water OK After Crews Repair 20-Foot-Wide Sinkhole In Havelock

Havelock says residents can now safely drink their water after a water line break created a huge sink hole.

Tests have returned which have cancelled a boil water notice.

Pineview Street remains closed because of the damage.

Previous Story

Repair work is complete on a 20-foot wide sink hole that formed from a big water leak in Havelock.

Authorities discovered the leak Sunday near Joe's Branch and the bridge on Pineview Street. The 10-foot deep hole ate part of the street and its shoulder.

Water has since been restored to all the homes, but the road will remain closed until crews are able to restore the substructure back to normal.

Previous Story

Havelock officials said a water line break flushed out a large sinkhole that are still keeping crews busy this morning.

On Sunday, Havelock public information officer Diane Miller said crews were working to repair a 6-inch main water line break near Joe's Branch and the bridge on Pineview Street in Havelock.

Early Monday morning, officials at the Havelock Police Department said crews discovered that water line break opened up a 20-foot wide, 15-foot-deep sinkhole.

City officials said crews worked overnight on the repair, and now only one home on Pineview remains without water.

Residents who lost water are now under a boil water notice as the water is tested for any possible contamination.

The city said at mid-day there was no time estimate for when repairs would be completed.

Previous Story

Officials say that a bridge in Havelock is having to close for maintenance Sunday evening.

Diane Miller with the city of Havelock says that a significant water leak was discovered that has prompted the closure of the bridge on Pineview over Joe’s Branch.

Miller says that equipment will be moving into the area, and that once repairs commence, water in the area may need to be shut off to isolate the leak.

There was no timetable for how long the closure will last.
