Craven County Assistant Emergency Services Director Ira Whitford says a house fire in Vanceboro Friday night is considered suspicious. Several fire crews and an ambulance are on scene of the fire at Mill Avenue and Arnold Street which began about 9:00 p.m. and sent flames shooting 40 feet into the air. Whitford says this is the 4th abandoned structure fire crews have responded to in the past 7-9 months in the same area.

No injuries have been reported. Whitford says there is no power running to the home, and the exact cause of the fire is not known yet.
