A local educator is one of two finalists for the Southeast Regional North Carolina Teacher of the Year.
Ike Smith is a teacher at Craven Early College High School and Teacher of the Year in Craven County.
A selection committee will visit Smith's classroom in November before determining and announcing the Southeast Regional Teacher of the Year in December.
Regional winners will be appointed to the superintendent's teacher advisory board and will have opportunities to communicate with state education leaders and policymakers, along with other prizes.
Smith got his masters in teaching from UNC Chapel Hill.
