Craven Co. GOP Commissioner May Run Against Walter Jones

A Craven County commissioners says he is considering making a run for Congress against incumbent Walter Jones.

Scott Dacey, who is also a Republican, says it's time the 3rd Congressional District has effective leadership.

"I am deeply concerned that Walter Jones, as a longstanding member of the House Armed Services Committee, but never having held a leadership position, has failed to effectively utilize the honor and privilege of serving on this very important panel," said Dacey in a news release. "And the fact that his colleagues booted Jones from the powerful House Financial Services Committee should not be lost on the voters of eastern North Carolina either."

Dacey, who is a Trent Woods real estate developer and a partner in a Washington, DC government relations firm, is currently chairman of the Craven County Board of Commissioners.

Jones, of Farmville, has been in Congress since 1995. In his last election he defeated former New Bern Police Chief Frank Palombo in the Republican primary and easily went on to win in the general election.
