Cornwell Named Director Of Athletics At Ayden-Grifton

LITTLEFIELD – Ayden-Grifton High School has announced the appointment of Head Football Coach Paul Cornwell as the next director of athletics at the school. Cornwell will replace Chris Ross, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

Cornwell has more than 26 years of coaching experience, including the past nine as football coach at Ayden-Grifton. He has led the Chargers to the state playoffs during each of his years with the school, and he was named the 2013 Carolina Panthers High School Coach of the Year.

A 1987 graduate of Ayden-Grifton High School, Cornwell holds a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Masters in School Administration from East Carolina University. His wife, Carrie, is a kindergarten teacher at Eastern Elementary in Pitt County, and his twin daughters also attend the school.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to lead the Ayden-Grifton High School athletic program,” Cornwell said. “Chris Ross has done a fantastic job leading our program, and I hope that I can help us build on what we have accomplished as an athletic department. We have always believed in putting teams on the field that our school and community can be proud of, and we will continue to approach everything that way.”
