NBC News reports the pharmacy blamed for 39 deaths in an outbreak of fungal meningitis, including one death in our state, filed for bankruptcy Friday.
The outbreak was also blamed for 620 infections caused by contaminated drugs. The New England Compounding Center of Framingham, Massachusetts filed for bankruptcy and pledged to establish a fund to compensate victims. It faces more than 400 lawsuits from patients who received epidural steroid injections later found to be tainted with fungus.
A 77-year-old Denton, North Carolina woman in Davidson County died in October from an injection she received in late August.
