Clearing Skies; Cold Rain, But Little Snow Overnight

The storm that prompted the winter weather advisories was quickly pulling away at 3:00 am. Most of eastern Carolina received between 1/2" and 1" of cold rain. There was a brief changeover to snow along the far northern and western counties, but all accumulating snows stayed along and west of I-95 and north of the northern state line. Temps are holding in the mid 30s as we approach sunrise. All precipitation will come to an end by 4:00 am. No significant travel problems are expected in eastern Carolina this morning.

At 3:30 am all winter warnings and advisories were discontinued across eastern Carolina.

This was a typical North Carolina storm with the colder air coming in just as the rain leaves the area.

Skies will clear out Friday, with a chilly north wind holding the highs in the lower 40s.

After a sunny weekend in the middle 50s, Martin Luther King Jr. Day marks a significant cool down that will continue for the early portion of next week. Highs will likely only reach the upper 30s to lower 40s by Tuesday with lows in the 20s.
