ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (AP) - The Coast Guard has rescued two people from a 22-foot sailboat that ran aground at the entrance to the Alligator River.
No injuries were reported. The owner is scheduled to salvage the boat.
The Coast Guard says people aboard Permission Impossible contacted its North Carolina Command Center about 5:30 p.m. Friday to request assistance.
A rescue swimmer lowered from an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter hoisted a man and a woman from the sailboat and took them to Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, where they were taken to a local hotel.
The Coast Guard also dispatched a 25-foot response boat, but it was unable to get close enough to pass a towline due to the sailboat due to the shallow water.
