Coast Guard Rescues Two From Floundering Sailboat

A weekend rescue in severe weather landed two drifting mariners safely on shore.

The Coast Guard said on Saturday, crew members aboard the 43-foot-long sailboat, Cimarron, reported they had lost rigging and were adrift nearly 17 miles from the Oregon Inlet.

The Coast Guard sent both the Cutter Block Island patrol boat and the 47-foot Motor Life Boat, and by 1:30AM on Sunday, the motor Life Boat was able to locate the drifting crew members on their sailboat.

The Coast Guard said by 2:45PM on Sunday, the Cutter Block Island arrived to tow the boat toward Chesapeake Bay during the severe weather.

Neither of the mariners were injured, but got back to shore safely by Monday.
