Coast Guard Rescues Possible Stroke Victim Off Cape Lookout Coast

The Coast Guard says that it rescued a man from a cruise ship after it’s believed he suffered a stroke.

The rescue took place aboard the Norwegian Gem, a 965-foot cruise ship about 70 miles south of Cape Lookout.

Coast Guard watchstanders say they were contacted by crew members around 4:40 p.m. about the possible stroke.

Members from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City dispatched crews aboard a MH-60 Jayhawk Helicopter to assist.

The man and his son were hoisted into the copter by 6:30 and taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

The man’s condition is not known at this time.
