Coast Guard Lieutenant Reassigned, Awaiting Court Martial

The Coast Guard says one of their own has been reassigned to the port in Elizabeth City, where he's awaiting trial. Among his charges, conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman.

The Coast Guard says Lieutenant Wayne Barfield is facing a handful of charges going against military code. Those charges range from cruelty and maltreatment, to assault and battery.

No word yet on how those charges came about, but we know the 44-year-old faced an Article 32 investigation. That's a lot like a grand jury hearing for a civilian.

Barfield's court martial, which is essentially the military trial, is set for Wednesday in Norfolk.
