Coast Guard Assists Surf City Dinner Cruise Boat

The Coast Guard says that it responded Friday to a report of a dinner cruise boat that had engine trouble and later became grounded in the Intracoastal Waterway near Surf City.

Officials say the captain of the Belle of Topsail contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders around 6:55 p.m.

A 41-foot Coast Guard utility boat was launched from Wrightsville Beach, along with boat crews with the Pender County Fire Department.

A good Samaritan aboard the Big Daddy, a sport fishing boat, arrived and began taking the 46 passengers aboard the Belle of Topsail to shore at the Beach House Marina in Surf City. Coast Guard and fire department members assisted with the transfer.

The Big Daddy then took the Belle of Topsail in tow to its homeport in Surf City.

Officials say there were no injuries.
