A 4-million dollar bridge project In Beaufort County is behind schedule causing a major highway to remain closed with a detour.
The bridge on Highway 33 in Chocowinity was supposed to be finished sometime in October, but DOT officials say the project is only a little over 61-percent complete.
It's estimated work will continue through January and the delay was caused by extra permits required because of the railroad.
A detour directs drivers around the construction work but adds travel time for drivers.
