NEW INFO: Child On Makeshift Sled Hits Tree

An 11 year old was injured Tuesday in a sledding accident in Craven County.

It happened around 3:00 p.m. on Old Airport Road in James City.

Deputies say two boys were on a make-shift sled, a car hood that was being pulled by a 4-wheeler. The man on the 4-wheeler made a turn and the boys went airborne.

One was okay, but the other struck a tree.

The 11 year old was taken to CarolinaEast Medical Center where he was stabilized. Officials say he was then moved to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
