(NBC News) Remembrance ceremonies are taking place around the country to mark the 12th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.
The largest is in New York City at the site of the fallen World Trade Towers, where friends and families of the victims gathered.
Six moments of silence there marked times of each attack and the moments the world towers fell 12 years ago.
Hundreds of friends and families to the nearly 3,000 victims gathered on scared ground at the memorial plaza now in place of Ground Zero as the names of those lost were read aloud.
