Many more people in Carteret County will be able to have a Thanksgiving meal this year thanks to a generous donation Wednesday.

Martha's Mission Cupboard in Carteret County received a load of canned goods from the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores and eighty turkeys donated from St. Andrew Church in Morehead City.

Martha Bell, the executive director of the food pantry, says their mission is to tide those in need over until assistance from the state or federal government. Bell says, "Each person who is in need has to show a referral form. Then those recipients wait in line while the volunteers pack their grocery bags full of necessities according to the number in their family.

Martha's Mission is primarily run by fifty elderly volunteers throughout the year.
