A winter weather advisory is in effect until 7am on Saturday for Beaufort, Mainland Hyde, Martin, Outer Banks Dare, Tyrrell, Washington and western Dare County. The threats are black ice and slick roadways.
Get your walking shoes ready: Cape Lookout Lighthouse is now open to climb for the season.
Cape Lookout National Seashore will open the Cape Lookout Lighthouse Wednesday.
You will be able to climb its 207 steps between now through September 20th on most Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Tickets to climb are available at a first-come, first-serve basis which can only be purchased in-person the day of the climb at the Light Station Visitor Center on the island near the lighthouse.
Climbing hours for the lighthouse will be 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., during extended hours and 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 2 through Saturday, August 23.
The lighthouse will also be open on holiday weekends Sunday, May 25, July 6 and August 31.
