Campus Lockdown Lifted After Shots Fired At Elizabeth City State University

A local university was on lockdown shortly after 11p.m. Thursday night after shots were fired on campus.

An emergency notification was sent to students at 11:15 p.m. on Thursday at Elizabeth City State University telling students to return to their residence halls.

Shots were fired behind Mitchell Lewis Hall, a co-ed residence hall, and near the Complex according to the alert.

The university says the shots came from a non-student who apparently was on campus.

The campus was locked down for about an hour and 45 minutes.

ECSU says at this point all activities this weekend on campus will occur as scheduled.
