Camp Lejeune Marine Honored With Silver Star

A Camp Lejeune Marine has received the third-highest combat award in the U.S. military for his heroic actions.

Staff Sgt. Daniel Ridgeway was presented the Silver Star medal during a ceremony Tuesday morning for his actions in Afghanistan.

Ridgeway supervised a security patrol whose mission was to clear a suspected enemy weapons cache.

An IED struck Ridgeway's team member. The citation details Ridgeway's heroic actions in clearing, on his hands and knees, a 40-meter path to get care to the wounded Marine, then he cleared a landing zone to get the wounded Marine out.

Ridgeway cleared five additional IED's while under direct fire.
