Bridge Project Means 8-Month Detour In Beaufort County

A more than eight-month detour is coming up for some drivers in Beaufort County.

The Department of Transportation is replacing the bridge on Highway 33 in Chocowinity over the Norfolk Southern railway near the intersection with Highway 17.

Signs are up now saying the bridge will be closed starting next Monday, February 18th, through October 31st.

The nearly $4.2 million project will replace the bridge built in 1935.

The DOT says construction is expected to be complete in April of next year.
